Woman’s ploy deters rapistr – DA
A Brooklyn woman who was robbed at gunpoint chased off a would-be rapist by telling him she was menstruating, prosecutors said Monday.
Police on Sunday arrested Seth Roman, 20, of the Bronx, for allegedly stalking the 38year-old woman for several blocks in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, on Thursday before putting a gun to her head and stealing her bag, cops said. He then ordered her to the ground and pulled down her pants and underwear, according to Brooklyn prosecutors.
“The complainant pleads with the defendant to stop and tells the defendant that she is on her period,” said Assistant District Attorney Wilfredo Cotto.
“The defendant stops and says, ‘You’re lucky,’ then walks away.”
The attack was caught on surveillance video, though . prosecutors said the victim has not yet identified Roman as her assailant.
Roman (inset) was also arrested Sunday for assaulting his nephew in a separate case, and was subsequently charged in the attempted rape.
He was accused of smacking his 12-year-old nephew with a hairbrush and cutting the boy’s lip, which required nine stitches.
Roman’s grandmother and his aunt called the cops on him, though his lawyer claims the incident was a case of roughhousing gone wrong.
“The incident in regards to his family member as I understand it was an accident. There was nothing intentional. The complaining witness and my client were playing around and this happened unintentionally,” said Roman’s lawyer at the Monday morning arraignment.
Roman was charged with attempted rape, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, sexual abuse, forcible touching and menacing for the Thursday incident.
His bail was set at $5,000 in the assault on his nephew, but he was ordered held without bail in the attempted rape case. He’s due back in court Friday.
