A Brooklyn man was shot and killed by police at his ex-girlfriend’s Long Island home after refusing to drop his knife, authorities said.

The woman called the cops to her Coram home around 5:40 p.m. Monday because her drunk former boyfriend wouldn’t leave the townhouse, Suffolk County police said.

One officer entered the Towne Woods Road home through the garage and found Paul Sulkowski, 46, approaching him with a knife.

The cop ordered Sulkowski to drop his weapon multiple times, but the man kept walking towards him as the officer backed out onto the street about 500 feet, authorities said.

The cop then fired his gun and struck Sulkowski. The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“He was a very gentle man, very, very gentle,” said Sulkowski’s grief-stricken mother at her Williamsburg, Brooklyn, home. “Never aggressive, never!”

The mother, who did not want her name published, said the ex-girlfriend shared the devastating news over the phone Monday night.

“He was not bad, he was just sick,” the mom sobbed. “They shot him three times in the belly. The doctor said there was so much blood, but the blood wouldn’t stop.”

Sulkowski, who was born in Poland, worked as an airplane pilot and had four kids, his mother said. “He was very educated, always knowledgeable on everything. He was a very happy. He loved NASA and airplanes,” she said.

She disputed the police narrative that her son was acting aggressively.

“This is not true, what they are saying. He was a happy man, who was trying to get help,” she said.

Suffolk County detectives were investigating the shooting Tuesday.
