Cop axed in crash that killed rookie

An off-duty NYPD sergeant who killed a rookie cop when his car flipped in a booze-fueled crash on City Island in the Bronx has been fired after pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter charges, authorities said Wednesday.

Sgt. Randolph Price pleaded guilty late last month in the death of Officer Bianca Bennett, 27 (inset), who perished when fast-moving flames consumed Price’s Dodge Charger during the Feb. 1, 2016, crash.

He copped to the charges with the understanding he wouldn’t do any jail time, officials said. Instead he would be sentenced to five years’ probation and perform four speaking engagements on the perils of drunken driving, a spokeswoman for the Bronx district attorney’s office said.

Price was facing up to seven years in prison if convicted at trial. He is expected to be sentenced Nov. 12.

As a result of his guilty plea, he was dismissed from the department, an NYPD official said.

Price and Bennett were on their way home in Price’s car after a day at the NYPD firing range when Price, who was speeding, lost control of the muscle car, hit a tree stump and flipped over, sparking a fire.

Bennett died in the fire. She was on the force just 10 months before her death and was two months away from marrying her fiancé, Michael Coleman.

Price was pulled out of the blaze by two cops who came across the crash on their way home from the range. Tests showed that Price’s blood alcohol content was 0.12 — well over the legal limit of 0.08.
