Country singer Doug Supernaw, a Texas honky-tonk star known for his chart-topping single “I Don’t Call Him Daddy,” died Friday after a two-year battle with lung and bladder cancer.

He was 60.

“Doug Supernaw passed away peacefully at home in his beloved Texas,” a message on his official Facebook page read.

The musician was diagnosed with advanced stage IV lung and bladder cancer in February 2019, the note said.

“Doug began an aggressive treatment schedule with the hopes of shrinking his numerous cancer cells. Fighting the good fight for almost two years, Doug’s cancer had spread to his brain and spine, and he was placed in hospice care in October 2020,” the message said.

“Doug Supernaw has gone home ... rest easy brother,” the Oak Ridge Boys said in a Twitter post Friday.

Supernaw (below) released four studio albums during his heyday in the 1990s after he was signed with BNA Records in Nashville.

The first, “Red and Rio Grande” in 1993, generated four singles including “Reno” and “I Don’t Call Him Daddy,” the singer’s sole No. 1 hit.

Written from the perspective of a divorced dad, Supernaw’s radio mainstay portrays a heartbreaking conversation with a young son about the mom’s new boyfriend.

The single helped land Supernaw a 1993 nomination for Top New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music.

Supernaw’s other popular songs include “What’ll You Do About Me,” off the 1995 album “Deep Thoughts from a Shallow Mind” and “Not Enough Hours in the Night” from 1996’s “You Still Got Me.”

He also lent his baritone vocals to a Beach Boys recording of “Long Tall Texan” in 1996.

Supernaw is survived by his third wife, Cissy Allen Supernaw, as well as his children and grandchildren.
