GOOD AS GOLD

Gagain brought negative attention to our organization, so it was something that won’t happen again.” He even said “I plan to honor my contract the best I possibly can” through the 2022 season. Tate’s actions all point to the fact he wants out, though, and Judge’s and the Giants’ actions since his outburst reinforce that he won’t be here past this season.

Tate couldn’t help himself from seemingly needling Judge on Friday again, as a matter of fact.

Asked about the humiliation of being relegated to the scout team last Thursday and Friday, Tate smiled and said: “I did have fun on scout team. That was fun. I enjoyed it. Got a chance to make some plays, get the defense ready. So I enjoyed that.”

He also alluded late in the interview to believing he’s “still playing at a high level” and hopes to be a part of something great “whether I’m here or somewhere else.”

Tate was deferring to Judge ultimately, however, a sign of how clearly the coach had gotten his message through to Tate in last Tuesday’s lengthy one-on-one meeting and Wednesday’s ensuing practice banishment.

Asked if he were playing Sunday through a knee injury sustained in Thursday’s practice, Tate said: “I’ll let Joe kinda talk about the injuries and what not.” Tate took only one rep with the offense in the early open portion of practice.

Tate ultimately was listed as questionable with the knee injury.

“It was just the end of practice. He just kind of bumped bodies with someone,” Judge said of how the Thursday injury happened. “We’re optimistic. But at the same time, I need to be fair to the player to give him an opportunity to go out there and see where he’s at physically.”

Of last week’s closed-door meeting with Judge, Tate said: “I thought it was very productive. We talked like men, and I think we came up with solutions on how I can be better to help us.”

Plenty of euphemisms in that description, to be sure. The end result at least is

Golden Tate apologizes for temper tantrum that got him banned for one week, and also says his wife should not have taken to social media to complain about his role with Big Blue.
