Hernandez working way back after ‘weird’ time with

Giants guard Will Hernandez is working his way back into the lineup after spending the past two weeks on the COVID-19/ Reserve List. Hernandez played 12 snaps against the Eagles on Sunday after Kevin Zeitler went down with a concussion during the game.

“It was definitely a different experience,” Hernandez said about his time battling COVID-19. “It was something I never really experienced before, it was weird. Just like everything else, I got through it and I feel great now. I’m good, I’m ready to roll.”

Hernandez said that he had some symptoms, but he’s feeling better now. “I went through like standard sickness and all that,” Hernandez said. “At the end of the day, I just kind of got over it and I feel good as new.” Hernandez said he didn’t do anything crazy during his sickness; he went on a drive once to get out of the house.

“The training staff was being very careful with me, especially dealing with a virus that we know little about,” Hernandez said. “They told me from the beginning that they were going to ease me into this … At the end of the day, we have to remember that this is about the team. Not about Will Hernandez, you know?”

Giants head coach Joe Judge said he felt like Hernandez was ready to play against the Eagles, even though the initial plan was for him not to play prior to Zeitler’s injury. “What I saw when he went in the game is a guy who was ready,” Judge said. “I saw when Will went in there, he was mentally, physically and emotionally ready to go. Obviously, two weeks off from a game, it’s a lot to ask anyone to jump right back in the swing of things and go through an entire game. When we needed him, he came through. He played well, he played tough. That’s just kind of Will’s personality.”
