Cop pleads guilty to choking girlfriend on S.I. and resigns
An NYPD cop accused of choking his girlfriend on Staten Island last year has pleaded guilty and resigned, authorities said.
Joseph Sidlowski, 34, pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted strangulation and quit the department under a plea agreement with the Staten Island District Attorney’s office, officials said.
According to a criminal complaint, Sidlowski squeezed his girlfriend’s neck until she passed out on Aug. 23, 2019, in a home in Rossville.
She suffered abrasions to her neck, hand and knee, authorities said.
The seven-year veteran assigned to the 120th Precinct on Staten Island was arrested two days later and charged with strangulation, assault and harassment.
He also agreed to undergo counseling sessions through the Abusive Partner Intervention Program, officials said.
Once he completes that program, he will be re-sentenced for misdemeanor obstruction of breathing and serve three years probation.
Sidlowksi made $79,565 in 2018 as a cop, according to city records.
