Three more Giants test positive for coronavirus

- BY CHARLES MCDONALD

The Giants announced Friday morning that three more players have tested positive for COVID-19.

Offensive lineman Matt Peart, wide receiver Dante Pettis and tight end Kaden Smith were the three players who tested positive, the Daily News has confirmed.

“The players were immediately notified to self-isolate, and the contact tracing process is underway,” the team said in a statement.

The Giants office is closed Friday due to the team’s bye week and the team won’t resume work until Monday.

The team said it is working with the NFL’s Chief Medical Officer “in all matters relating to positive results and close contacts.”

Earlier in the week Big Blue’s kicker Graham Gano had tested positive for the coronavirus. Gano’s positive test came on Monday night.

Joe Judge’s team held remote meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday before the team took the rest of the week off.

Punter Riley Dixon and long snapper Casey Kreiter were then placed on the COVID/

Reserve list on Wednesday, presumably as close contacts with Gano.

Offensive lineman Will Hernandez missed two games after testing positive several weeks ago.

“Coming back from two weeks of doing nothing, and not by choice but doing nothing, you have to kind of think about is he ready to just get back in there and play?” Hernandez said earlier this week about his time on the COVID/ Reserve list. “But I was always ready to go, I was always ready to play. I wanted to play, obviously. You guys know me by now. But at the end of the day, I’m just going to follow what the coaches are telling me and what the medical staff says.”

This has been an eventful bye week for Big Blue. On Sunday, they beat the Eagles for the first time since the 2016 season, Gano tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday night, the team fired offensive line coach Marc Colombo on Wednesday and now Peart, Pettis and Smith have tested positive.

The Giants don’t play again until Sunday, Nov. 29 when they are scheduled to visit the Bengals.
