Work with leaders to fight COVID? Nah, it’s nice out, I’ll go play golf

- Dave Goldiner

President Trump Saturday blew off a G20 summit meeting on the coronavirus pandemic to hit the golf course.

After logging in briefly to a video conference marking the opening ceremony of the economic summit, Trump boasted that he isn’t accepting defeat and leaving the White House just yet.

“I look forward to working with you again for a long time,” he told the other leaders.

But minutes later, Trump headed to his golf resort in suburban Virginia instead of interacting with other top leaders about the pandemic’s impact.

He also sent out a tweet promising undisclosed big news about supposed fraud in Georgia’s already certified election win for President-elect Joe Biden.

The virtual summit marks Trump’s final meeting with the leaders of the world’s biggest economies.

He treated it with his signature disdain for global diplomacy .

Almost all of the leaders like

Germany’s Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron of France have already called Biden to congratulate him on his victory in the Nov. 3 vote.

They all participated in the meeting about the crushing impact that COVID-19 has had on the world economy, along with leaders of South Korea, South Africa and others. But Trump was already out on the links enjoying one of the last balmy days of fall.

Trump, who used to slam President Barack Obama for golfing too much, has spent every weekend day since the election duffing.

Saturday marked the 18th straight day since the election that Trump has refused to take questions from reporters, a remarkable streak considering he relishes sparring with the media.

Trump knows he lost the election to Biden, aides say. But he is mounting a dead-end push to cast doubt on the results and rev up his #MAGA base of supporters.
