Nab civilian NYPD worker in fake-cop caper on bus
A civilian employee of the NYPD dressed up as a cop and boarded a Manhattan-bound MTA bus Thursday to demand it take him to a destination in Brooklyn — but ended up at a police precinct instead.
Wannabe cop Joseph McGreevy, 61, climbed into a Manhattan-bound X28 express bus in Brooklyn, said MTA officials.
McGreevy was dressed in full NYPD officer’s attire, including a brass star, said law enforcement sources and MTA officials.
McGreevy told the bus driver to divert the Manhattan-bound bus to a destination in Brooklyn, MTA sources said.
The bus driver — spooked — flagged down a cop car on the way to Brooklyn.
The officers who boarded the bus quickly realized McGreevy was not a real cop and arrested him, sources said.
McGreevy was busted less than a month ago after he tried to impersonate mounted police officers, cops said.
In the bizarre Oct. 24 incident, McGreevy dressed as a cop, approached a mounted horse unit in Midtown, flashed a badge and told officers he was NYPD, said authorities.
When officers asked McGreevy for a picture ID he fled. He was arrested Oct. 30, and is charged in Manhattan Criminal Court with unlawful impersonation, reckless endangerment, and other counts.
McGreevy was previously a citizen employee of the NYPD and worked at the 1st Precinct stationhouse in Tribeca. He is an administrative aide who earns $43,621, records show.
It was not immediately clear whether McGreevy was suspended or fired after the October incident — but disciplinary action was taken, an NYPD spokesman said.
