Prez-elect dogged by sprain in his foot

- BY BRIAN NIEMIETZ

A “Major” injury to President-elect Joe Biden appeared to be minor.

Biden, 78, “sustained a sprain in his right foot” Saturday when he turned an ankle while playing with his dog Major (photo), his office said Sunday. Biden (inset) will see a doctor “out of an abundance of caution,” but X-rays show no obvious fracture, according to his personal physician.

Joe and Jill Biden rescued Major — who will be the first shelter dog to occupy the White House — in 2018. The German shepherd is their second of two dogs. The future president and first lady adopted Champ, also a German shepherd, in 2008 when Biden was elected as Barack Obama’s vice president. The Bidens have reportedly spoken about adding a cat to the mix.

Biden has not tweeted about the mishap, though his feed did tweet a public health advisory Sunday, reminding Americans to wear masks while the pandemic continues to spread. “Let me be clear: Wearing a mask is not about making your life less comfortable or taking something away. It’s to give something back to all of us — a normal life,” Biden tweeted.

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, who are expected to leave the White House by Jan. 20, do not have pets. It’s the first time in more than a century that no animals have occupied 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
