‘And Just Like That,’ no feud with Cattrall

- BY THERESA BRAINE

Fans are exultant at the impending return of “Sex and the City” in the form of a sequel series, “And Just Like That,” but a number are missing what they felt was a key ingredient of the original show’s luster: Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall.

Under pressure from Instagram commenters, actress Sarah Jessica Parker addressed Kim Kattrall’s absence from “And Just Like That,” declaring that the three remaining co-stars will miss her, according to People.

“No. I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would,” Parker wrote back to one commenter who pointed out that her failure to tag Samantha Jones (Cattrall’s character) in her Instagram announcement about the reboot meant there was a feud.

“Samantha isn’t part of this story,” Parker continued. “But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do. X.”

“Happy to see you back but will miss Kim/Samantha,” another commenter wrote.

“We will too,” Parker wrote, according to Yahoo! Entertainment. “We loved her so,” telling another fan, “She will always be there.”

The answers belied Cattrall’s lambasting of her former co-star in 2018, when she called Parker a “hypocrite” and “cruel” after refusing to accept her condolences on the death of her brother.

“Let me make this VERY clear (If I haven’t already),” Cattrall wrote to Parker via Instagram at the time. “You are not my family. You are not my friend.”

As recently as September of last year, Cattrall, now 64 and starring in the Fox series “Filthy Rich,” said she doesn’t have “any regrets” about blasting Parker.

She had already decisively opted out of a third movie, a refusal that had deep-sixed the project in 2017. But she has said she loved doing the show, as People reported in December.

Parker’s Instagram announcement about the new series, which was echoed in similar posts from co-stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, was accompanied by the tap-tap-tap of typewriter keys against a montage of New York City’s visual and auditory clamor.

“And just like that…” intones Parker as lead character Carrie Bradshaw, followed by just the words, “The story continues….”

The revival, which will be 10 half-hour shows airing on HBO Max, follows Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbs (Nixon) and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Davis) through their 50s and all life’s attendant complications.

It was hinted at just before Christmas and announced as a done deal on Sunday.

Her comment to another who asked about recasting the role of Samantha was, “We have some new stories to tell.”
