Capitol hero Goodman escorts her

- BY LARRY MCSHANE

The hero police officer who steered an angry mob from the Senate floor during the U.S. Capitol rioting was honored Wednesday with a key role in the inauguration of President Biden.

Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman escorted Vice President Kamala Harris into the building where she and Biden were inaugurated just two weeks after Goodman’s heroics against a violent mob.

The officer was named as acting deputy House sergeant at arms in honor of his efforts that kept the insurrectionists away from members of Congress hiding from the rioters.

The Washington crowd cheered when he was introduced just before Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were brought out for the ceremony. He walked with the couple as they climbed the Capitol steps on their way inside.

Video of the terrifying Jan. 6 scene captured Goodman (photo) shoving the leader of the rioting trespassers, an Iowa man in a QAnon T-shirt, as they stood near an open hallway leading to the Senate chambers.

The distracted rioter, followed by others in the angry group, chased after Goodman as he steered them away from the floor.

“Officer Eugene Goodman was the only thing standing between the mob and the United States Senate,” said Rep. Charlie Crist (D-Fla.), one of three members of Congress calling for the hero to receive a Congressional Gold Medal.

The baton-waving QAnon member, identified as Doug Jensen, was later busted by the FBI on five federal charges.
