904 propane tanks removed from warehouse in Brooklyn

- BY ELIZABETH KEOGH

FDNY fire inspectors seized 904 flammable propane gas tanks Friday from a Brooklyn warehouse where they were improperly stored, officials said.

Mohamed G. Mohamed, who leases the space where the tanks were found around 2 p.m. on Nevins Ave. near Union St. in Gowanus, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree reckless endangerment.

Mohamed, of Bayonne, N.J., rents parking space and provides propane tanks to food truck owners, said a client who uses his services.

“It’s just storage inside the warehouse,” said the man, who asked not to be named. “He gives us propane. I’ve never seen that many [propane tanks]. I’ve seen 20 or 30. That is too many.”

Mohamed also stores his own food trucks on site, the man said.

Mohamed was given a desk appearance ticket and released Friday evening, sources said.
