Trump to talk to GOP donors

Former President Donald Trump is coming out of his postelection shell.

The most powerful figure in the Republican Party announced Tuesday that he will address a key spring meeting of GOP donors — a few weeks after he returns to the spotlight this weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando.

Trump will attend the threeday confab with GOP supporters in Palm Beach, Fla., starting April 9, near his Mar-a-Lago estate.

His presence is another sign that Trump plans to maintain his grip on the GOP, and that he remains a crucial drawing card for voters and powerful donors alike.

The ex-president will return to center stage this Sunday for a planned speech at CPAC, the nation’s largest conservative event.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will kick off the convention Friday with a speech highlighting his opposition to coronavirus restrictions. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) will also speak.

There will also be a string of panels discussing Trump’s claims about voter fraud, another sign of his enduring hold on the party.

Trump has been mostly quiet since leaving the White House and refusing to attend President Biden’s inauguration.

Banned from social media, he made statements cheering his acquittal at his Senate impeachment trial and attacking Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for what he called disloyalty. The ex-president’s only television appearance came last week when he paid tribute to right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh after his death.

Ex-Vice President Mike Pence, usually a stalwart at CPAC events, will skip this year’s meeting.
