Bad Bramhall

- Rocco Parascandola and Graham Rayman

Woodland Park, N.J.: There is another reason why subway ridership is down: your paper. As a target of a purse-snatching attempt, I can relate to Monday’s Bramhall cartoon with a straphanger waiting for the scheduled arrival of another disturbed person to come and push people on the track. Hardly a day goes by that there isn’t an incident published about victims of aberrant behaviors, usually by a mentally ill person. The disabled and elderly in particular are more fearful of such attacks than they are of catching COVID-19 from crowded trains. All I can say is that your paper is doing a great job of reducing ridership on subways. Melanie Noonan

A 28-year-old man was shot dead on a Bronx street, police said Tuesday.

Anthony Castillo was shot twice in the upper body on Morris Ave. near E. 181st St. in Fordham Heights about 10:55 p.m. on Monday.

Medics rushed Castillo, who lived in Longwood, to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he could not be saved.

Castillo witnessed the murder of Ryan Ginyard, a 24-year-old relative of rapper Rob Base, the Daily News previously reported. The aspiring dental assistant was gunned down on a Bronx playground in July 2016.

Ginyard was about to give Castillo tickets for Ginyard’s graduation when Ginyard was shot, relatives told The News at the time.

Base, best known for the 1998 hit “It Takes Two,” was among the family members who held vigil for Ginyard at a Bronx hospital.

Castillo had 13 arrests on his record, including busts for grand larceny and conspiracy.

According to police back in 2016, Castillo was affiliated with the Dub City Gang and survived a 2011 shooting.

Cops said it was still unclear why Castillo was shot.

Citywide, homicides this year through Sunday were down 15%, with 40 slayings so far this year compared with 47 by the same point last year.

But shootings, including instances in which the victims survived, continue to rise, with 136 people shot this year, 18% more than the 115 by this time last year.
