Man dodges death after subway shove

- Rocco Parascandola

A straphanger shoved to the tracks at a Manhattan subway station in an unprovoked attack by a stranger managed to get back onto the platform, narrowly avoiding an oncoming train, police said Wednesday.

The 30-year-old victim was walking on the platform at Union Square when the assailant ran up behind him, saying nothing, and pushed him to the tracks before running off and escaping on a Q train about 6:20 p.m. Friday.

The victim, who lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, landed on the tracks but jumped back onto the platform as a downtown R train pulled into the station. He suffered minor injuries to his hands and knees from the fall.

The attacker is still being sought. He is described as Black and in his 20s and was wearing a black jacket, green hat and blue jeans.

This incident is eerily similar to an attack on an unsuspecting woman when a crazed homeless man shoved her in front an oncoming train at the same station in November.
