Ousted ‘Mandalorian’ star Carano says she decided ‘to go down swinging’ in chat

Gina Carano said she decided to “go down swinging” in a new interview following Lucasfilm’s announcement that it parted ways with the former “Mandalorian” star.

The actress, who played Cara Dune on Disney+’s live-action “Star Wars” series, had been involved in controversies in recent months that stemmed from her social media posts, which Lucasfilm described as “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

“I was prepared to, at any point, get let go because I’ve seen this happen to so many people,” Carano said on Sunday’s episode of “The Ben Shapiro Show.” “I’ve seen the looks on their faces. I’ve seen the bullying that takes place.”

Carano said, “I was like, ‘You’re coming for me, I know you are.’ They’re making it very obvious through their employees that were coming for me. So I was like, well then, I’m going to go down swinging, then, and I’m going to stay true to myself, and I’m going to let that speak.”

The former MMA fighter’s exit came after Carano, 38, shared an Instagram post, initially from another account, that referenced today’s political divide and the Holocaust, according to Variety. “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children,” the post reportedly read. “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

In a statement to Variety this month, Lucasfilm said Carano “is not currently employed” by the studio” and that “there are no plans for her to be in the future.”
