Man found dead near Citi Field

A 40-year-old man was found dead in a puddle outside Citi Field in Queens, and police were trying to determine how he died, police said Tuesday.

Jywan Stovall was discovered dead partially submerged in the puddle of water at a junkyard on Seaver Way about 5 p.m. Monday, cops said.

The street, which runs for a few blocks outside Citi Field, is named for Tom Seaver, the Hall of Fame pitcher who died last year.

Stovall’s body had no obvious signs of trauma. The city medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how he died.

Detectives were investigating whether Stovall and two other men broke into the junkyard to burglarize it, police sources said. Once in the junkyard, Stovall collapsed. His friends took off before cops arrived, the sources said.

Cops said Stovall was reported missing by his family to police in Elmsford, N.Y., the Westchester County town where he lived. The date he was reported missing is unclear.

“Supposedly last seen in Queens on Jan. 27, 2021,” wrote his sister Christine Stovall on Facebook Feb. 12. “This is not like him and we are concerned.”
