A domestic-violence suspect reached for a 13inch long kitchen knife, sparking a heart-stopping confrontation in which an NYPD officer opened fire at a Brooklyn apartment, body camera footage released Tuesday shows.

Neither suspect Tyrone Owens nor two uniformed police officers were hurt in the tense Jan. 4 incident. Owens, 39, has been charged with attempted murder, weapons possession and endangering the welfare of a child.

The drama unfolded after a Crown Heights woman made a 911 call reporting that Owens was inside her Hawthorne St. apartment and threatening her. She tells the operator her year-old son was also there.

Body camera footage shows the woman caller in the hallway as Officer Khaleef Allicott knocks on the door, trying to get Owens to answer.

The woman eventually opens the door herself, and Allicott steps inside and questions Owens. But moments later, Owens reaches for his rear waistband and swings at the officer with what police said was a 13-inch Cuisinart kitchen knife with an 8-inch blade. The officer steps back.

The footage then shows Owens moving toward Officer Talha Ahmad, who steps back down the hall and fires three times. Owens can be seen on the ground, but he wasn’t struck.

The shooting remains under investigation, police said.
