WON’T LET DIETS EAT ME UP: DEMI

- BY NANCY DILLON

Demi Lovato says she’s finally “full of peace” after ditching diet culture.

In Instagram posts marking her changing body and the end of eating disorder awareness week, the singer said not fixating on food has helped her find a better balance.

“I don’t count calories anymore. I don’t over exercise anymore. I don’t restrict or purge, and I especially don’t live my life accordingly to the diet culture and I’ve actually lost weight,” she wrote in the Monday post.

“This is a different experience. But I feel full. Not of food. But of divine wisdom and cosmic guidance. Peace. Serenity. Joy. And love,” she said.

She also posted about the dangers of using filters that perpetuate “unrealistic” beauty standards and an explainer of “orthorexia,” an eating disorder in which people become so obsessed with so-called “healthy eating,” they actually damage their own well-being.

Lovato, 28, has been open with her struggles with an eating disorder in the past. In December, she shared photos on Instagram showing her stretch marks painted with gold glitter.

“I used to genuinely believe recovery from an eating disorder wasn’t real. That everyone was faking or secretly relapsing behind closed doors. ‘Surely she throws up here and there.’ ‘She can’t POSSIBLY accept her cellulite,’ ” the singer wrote.

“Those we’re just a few of the things that I used to tell myself growing up. I’m so grateful that I can honestly say for the first time in my life — my dietitian looked at me and said, ‘This is what eating disorder recovery looks like,’ ” she said.

“I started wearing actual glitter paint on my stretch marks to celebrate my body,” she said.

The “What Other People Say” singer is due to share more of her personal story in a new YouTube docuseries titled “Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil,” set to debut March 23.

The trailer for the four-part series dropped last month, giving new insight into the July 2018 drug overdose scare that landed the superstar in a Los Angeles hospital.

“I had three strokes. I had a heart attack,” Lovato says in the trailer.

“I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today,” she said in a call with reporters to promote the project.

“I don’t drive a car because I have blind spots in my vision. For a long time, I had a really hard time reading. It was a big deal when I was able to read a book, which was like two months later, because my vision was so blurry,” she said.
