FOR CHAPPY!

GM Brian Cashman dumped right-hander Adam Ottavino — whom Boone had lost faith in by the playoffs — and his $9 million salary on the Red Sox. He added lefty Justin Wilson and side-arm veteran Darren O’Day, giving the Yankees some very different looks. Chapman’s fastball ranges up to 101 mph and O’Day’s can touch 80.

“We certainly know what those guys, what they’re capable of and, obviously, the tremendous track record,” Boone said. “Those are back-end, high leverage guys and I feel like all of them are in a pretty, pretty good spot right now. Feel good about their work, the stuff, how they’re responding and everything so I’m certainly excited about that group and so far so good and spring as far as their ramp up to get ready.”

knows that in this season, coming off the weird coronavirus pandemic-shortened 2020 season, that if he can come in and give the Bombers about 100 innings in spot starts or bullpens, he can play an important part. He can be part of the group that helps keep Gerrit Cole, Corey Kluber and the front-line starters healthy for October.

“So obviously, I want to make an impact on the team. My goal is 100 innings, so I don’t care where they are, whether they’re starts, piggybacks, long relief, whatever it is,” King said. “But I think that if I could contribute 100 solid innings to this team, then I think it’d be very, very beneficial for this team … Obviously, I’d like to be on (the Opening Day roster). But if not, then I know kind of what I’m working for and know that my chance will come.”

King allowed one run on two hits in four innings pitched Saturday. He walked one and struck out six.

FRAZIER OUT

Clint Frazier was given an extra day’s rest Saturday to deal with a minor issue, according to a team source. Frazier tweeted “I’m fine” during the game.
