Brazen crew of muggers wreaks havoc on Upper West Side
A crew of robbers has been wreaking havoc in Central Park and on the Upper West Side, stealing Citi Bikes, cash and cell phones, using force and brandishing weapons, police said.
The attacks began about 9:30 p.m. March 13 when the robbers attacked a helpless 13-year-old boy. The group followed the teen to his home near Amsterdam
Ave. and W. 77th St., pushed him to the ground and stole his L.A. Dodgers hat, police said.
Emboldened, the muggers struck again, this time brandishing a knife when they attacked two men riding Citi Bikes in Central Park. The group ambushed the victims in the park near W. 79th St. around 3:30 p.m. on March 17, yelling, “That’s our bike!” as one of them pulled out a knife. The thieves jacked the bikes, leaving the riders, ages 25 and 26, unharmed.
In the third incident, the robbers flashed a gun and robbed two teenagers in front of a building on Riverside Drive near 78th St around 9 p.m. Tuesday. The group approached the boys, 14 and 15, flashed a gun inside a waistband and stole the teens’ cell phones and a sweatshirt.
Just over two hours later, the group got into a residential building on Riverside
Drive and W. 78th St. and jacked an electric scooter, police said.
Shortly after, the muggers threatened to stab a 27-year-old man on W. 69th St. near Central Park West, stealing his cell phone and wallet containing $375. The group fled south on Central Park West.
Police were able to capture surveillance video of the suspects and are asking the public’s help identifying and tracking them down.
