Moderate Dems group backs front-runner

Mayoral candidate Andrew Yang was endorsed Wednesday by the New Era Democrats, a moderate political group with a history of supporting winning candidates from both parties.

The organization previously gave nods to Rudy Giuliani — long before his days as former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer — and then-Republican Mike Bloomberg on their paths to

City Hall. It also endorsed Mayor de Blasio in the 2013 Democratic mayoral primary.

NED handed Yang its stamp of approval at a small news conference outside a catering service in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, where the group holds its meetings. The endorsement burnishes Yang’s bipartisan appeal, but may impress few progressives in the Democratic primary.
