Colonial conundrum

-

Lackawaxen, Pa.: Voicer Richard D. Wilkins writes with alarm about the closing of college campus minds to opinions unshared by the majority. A legitimate concern, but supported by a poor example: Zionism, which has expanded the historical Zion into an imperialist territory and held those collocated there in a colonial grip. Practically, there is no good answer because in the region, the interests of Israel most nearly coincide with our own. Ethically, however, there is good reason to oppose those who justify Israel’s expansion, since that violates principles for which we are supposed to stand. So, the irony in Wilkins’s complaint of suppression of heterodoxy is that he seeks to stifle reaction to un-American ideas. John A. MacKinnon
