Centrism for its own sake is drab

- Richard Warren

Bronx: Marijuana is at worst psychologically, but not physically, addictive. Alcohol is physically addictive for some people. Marijuana has medical benefits. Alcohol is medically harmful. But Errol Louis claims that marijuana is a “powerfully addictive substance” in his April 8 column. Louis is concerned because marijuana is more powerful than even 10 years ago. But another writer stated that’s why he uses much smaller quantities than when he was younger. As for driving under the influence, the same problem exists with alcohol. Does Louis want a return to prohibition?

Louis also claims that income and corporate franchise tax increases of less than 1% will drive the rich out of New York State.

Reading his columns for years, I find that Louis is a knee-jerk centrist. When he criticized Sen. Bernie Sanders for attacking the political establishment, he argued that many members of that establishment are Black. So because unjust wars, wasteful defense spending, inadequate health care, lower taxes for the rich, etc., are supported by some Blacks, that makes them okay?

When Kamala Harris was chosen to run for vice president, he would not deal with her horrible record as a prosecutor. The mainstream media also ignored it. He said, “Her record as a prosecutor doesn’t matter.”

Louis occasionally writes a good column but most of his work is poor. Linda Stasi’s writing is mostly superb and occasionally poor. So shouldn’t Stasi be printed regularly and Louis be the one printed occasionally?
