Never been Black That was then OOPS
Flushing: In reference to Voicers Bob Cavaliere and Thomas Ray: I am assuming, Mr. Cavaliere, that you are not a Black man. I am also going to assume that you (as well as I) don’t know what it’s like to be pulled over by the police, told to get out of the car, be dragged away from your car and “accidentally” shot or held in place until you die. I therefore ask you to put yourself in that situation. Would you, knowing what happens to Black men, get out of the car? I wouldn’t. Even if I knew I did nothing wrong. What did Daunte Wright do wrong? You couldn’t even mention his name in your letter. And Mr. Ray, I would ask you to also walk in someone else’s shoes before jumping to conclusions. We all know that the news doesn’t give us all the information or even get all the information correct. So before judging Daunte’s father, get the full story. Susan Scharf
Massapequa, L.I.: To Voicer Mark Lang, who brings up very legitimate points: That applied 50 years ago but not today. If I applied to a historically Black college, I’m certain I would get in. Just look what every fire department, police department and private school did to help minorities by lowering their test standards to pass. Just another fact to show we don’t live in a racist country.
Wallingford, Conn.: Doesn’t anyone proofread your articles? See the one on Walter Mondale’s passing (“Hail Mondale as Dem ‘lion,’ “April 21). Doesn’t anyone know how to spell? Should be “mourning,” not “mouring.”
