Honey, I shrunk the former First Family GOP GOES AT CHENEY

Top House rep. sez not sure party’s No. 3 ‘can carry out job’

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday took his harshest shot yet at GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, suggesting he’s not sure she can “carry out the job.”

McCarthy (R-Calif.) claimed he’s heard myriad concerns about Cheney (R-Wyo.), the No. 3 Republican in the House, from other GOP lawmakers.

“I have heard from members concerned about her ability to carry out the job as [House Republican] conference chair, to carry out the message,” he said on Fox News. “We all need to be working as one if we’re able to win the majority.”

McCarthy reportedly had even harsher words for Cheney in offair remarks caught on a hot mic.

“I think she’s got real problems,” McCarthy told Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy, according to Axios. “I’ve had it with her.”

During the interview, the GOP leader asserted that the rankand-file anger over Cheney has nothing to do with her vote to impeach former President Trump. She was one of 10 House Republicans who voted as such.

“There’s no concern about

how she voted on impeachment,” McCarthy said. “That decision has been made.”

But a Cheney spokesman argued that her opposition to Trump is exactly what’s driving the intra-party attacks.

“This is about whether the

Republican Party is going to perpetuate lies about the 2020 election,” spokesman Jeremy Adler told CNN correspondent Manu Raju. “Liz will not do that.”

Sen. Mitt Romney, another anti-Trump stalwart, also backed Cheney in a tweet: “Liz Cheney refuses to lie.”

McCarthy’s remarks suggest Cheney could be in for a rocky road ahead, especially if proTrump lawmakers force a new vote on whether remain in the leadership.

Cheney easily turned aside an effort to oust her several months ago, with the help of McCarthy and his establishment allies.

But McCarthy, who once criticized Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 crowd, has returned to supporting the ex-president, creating a widening rift between himself and Cheney.

Cheney, meanwhile, has continued to insist that Trump should no longer play a role in the Republican party.

On Monday, Cheney fired back on Twitter minutes after the one-term president released a statement bashing “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 as the real “BIG LIE.”

“The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system,” she wrote. she should Republican
