Off-duty Finest is killed when his truck overturns on the LIE

- BY THOMAS TRACY

An off-duty NYPD cop lost control of his pickup truck and died in an overturn crash on the Long Island Expressway, officials said Tuesday.

Officer Ryan McKenna was heading east on the expressway in a 2018 Nissan Frontier when when he struck a median near Exit 53 in Brentwood about 10:55 p.m. Monday and overturned in the HOV lane, Suffolk County police said.

McKenna, 30, a resident of Hicksville, was rushed to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he died.

Suffolk County police were investigating what caused McKenna to lose control.

McKenna joined the NYPD in 2015 and was assigned to the department’s Housing Bureau, where he patrolled the Woodside Houses in Queens, officials said.

He’s the second NYPD cop to die on the Long Island Expressway in the past two weeks.

On April 27, NYPD Highway Officer Anastasios Tsakos was struck and killed, allegedly by unlicensed drunken driver Jessica Beuavais, as he diverted traffic away from an earlier fatal crash, officials said.

Beauvais’ blood-alcohol reading was nearly double the legal limit, and she acknowledged smoking marijuana prior to the fatal 2 a.m. crash, cops said. She was charged with vehicular manslaughter, DWI and driving without a license.
