Giants, Gang set to fill up MetLife

- BY SARAH VALENZUELA

Giants and Jets fans will once again be allowed to pack MetLife Stadium.

Big Blue and Gang Green’s home will welcome fans at 100% capacity when the season starts the end of the summer, the teams announced Thursday. Face masks, proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test won’t be required for entrance.

The stadium will be cash free with ATMs installed to convert cash into debit cards.

“We will continue to share additional gameday protocols as the NFL season approaches,” the teams wrote in identical statements.

The Giants have already started selling single-game tickets for two home preseason games (against the Jets on Aug. 14 and the Patriots on Aug. 29), as well as eight regular-season home games.

And the Jets have started selling single-game tickets for their Aug. 27 preseason game against the Eagles and nine regular-season games.

Last season, both teams played during the height of the pandemic without fans in the stands at home games.

The move comes amid New Jersey’s updated policies on business operations and public gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic. Starting last month, Gov. Phil Murphy started removing capacity limitation regulations for indoor and outdoor venues, then followed it up with removing mask mandates and social-distancing requirements.

On June 4, the governor signed an executive order ending the state’s COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.

“Today’s lifting of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency is a clear and decisive step on the path toward normalcy,” Murphy said then.

This week, the state’s seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases was 262, with 283 new cases recorded on June 16.
