Brady, Biden yuk it up at WH visit
Tom Brady will make a great politician when he retires from the NFL, if the ageless quarterback ever actually decides to hang up his cleats.
The QB who had a Make America Great Again hat in his Patriots’ locker in 2015 — and who flaunted the NFL’s mask protocols in 2020 — joined President Biden in mocking election conspiracies on Tuesday, with Brady and the Super Bowl champions in town for a White House visit.
“Not a lot of people think that we could have won,” Brady said. “And, um, in fact, I think about 40% of the people still don’t think we won.” “I understand that,” Biden said. “You understand that, Mr. President?” Brady asked.
“I understand that,” Biden repeated with a smile.
Brady also poked fun at the derogatory “Sleepy Joe” nickname that Biden’s adversaries tagged him with on his way to victory in the most recent presidential election.
“We had a game in Chicago where I forgot what down it was,” Brady said. “I lost track of one down in 21 years of playing. And they started calling me Sleepy Tom. Why would they do that to me?”
“I don’t know,” Biden cracked back. Biden also took an opportunity to urge all of the Buccaneers’ players to get vaccinated for COVID-19, if they haven’t already.
“Y’all who don’t have a shot, get one. Get one. Get one,” Biden said, according to several reports.
“Amen,” Bucs coach Bruce Arians said.
The Bucs’ White House visit was the first by a reigning NFL champion since 2017 and Brady’s first since 2005 with the Patriots when George W. Bush was in office.
Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, has won the Super Bowl during four different administrations but skipped visits by the Patriots in 2015 with Barack Obama and 2017 with Donald Trump.
The Patriots as a team chose not to attend after winning in 2019.
Brady’s Bucs took down the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9, in Super Bowl LV in February, becoming the first team ever to win a Super Bowl on its home field.
The Bucs won on the backs of Todd Bowles’ defense, aided by an enormous and questionable pass interference call against the Chiefs to negate a bad Brady interception.
Bucs GM Jason Licht managed to retain almost the entire roster for 2021, and now Tampa has designs on running it back.
