No justice? No dessert
Brooklyn: Mark Goldfeder decries the fact that Ben & Jerry’s ice cream execs have yanked their product from Israeli settlements (“Ben & Jerry’s unjust desserts,” op-ed, July 21). But why is he so bummed out? One would think that this is just ice cream, so what’s the big deal? Why can’t he simply let it go? Surely, there is plenty of this premium product out there in the marketplace. Well, the upshot is that it is a highly desirable product and its withdrawal from West Bank settlements is major. Maybe Israel should try treating Palestinians with some semblance of common decency, then they might get their ice cream back. Apparently, ice cream is only for people who can handle it. Consider it a teaching technique. Nick Smith
