14 hurt in Bronx bus-vs.-SUV smash up

- Clayton Guse

A horrifying crash in the Bronx left at least 14 people injured Thursday morning after an SUV driver smashed into a bus beneath a set of elevated subway tracks.

The Westchester Bee-Line bus (right) was rolling along Jerome Ave. near Bainbridge Ave. in Woodlawn when the SUV smashed into its side with enough force to hurl the bus into a pillar supporting the No. 4 line tracks overhead, authorities said.

The SUV (inset) was struck by another car before the crash, pushing it directly into the bus’ path, police said.

The crash left the SUV totaled with its front end smashed.

The bus’ entire windshield fell out when it smashed into the pillar.

At least 14 people were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, said an FDNY spokesman. A 69-year-old man was taken there in critical condition, police said.
