Lakers trade for Wizards’ Westbrook
The Los Angeles Lakers traded for Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook Thursday during the 2021 NBA Draft.
The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The trade sends Westbrook and two future second-round picks to the Lakers in exchange for forwards Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell, guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the Lakers’ No. 22 pick in the 2021 Draft.
Westbrook, a 9-time All-Star, re-joins LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the Western Conference on a probable title contender.
Westbrook averaged 22.2 points, 11.7 assists and 11.5 rebounds during his lone season in Washington after stops in Houston and Oklahoma City. It marked the fourth time in his career he averaged a triple-double.
Westbrook is under contract for $44.2 million next season, but has a $47.1 million player option for 2022-23.
