Cops eye gangs in party shoot

- BY THOMAS TRACY

The shooting at a Brooklyn party that left eight revelers wounded was a gang-fueled attempted hit job that may be connected to other shootings that happened on the same night, NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said Wednesday.

“As pieces are coming together, it’s becoming a little more apparent that there were a number of shootings across New York City that night that we believe may be related,” Shea said in an interview with WPIX-TV when asked about the bloodshed at the Roosevelt Houses on DeKalb Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant early Monday.

Two masked and hooded shooters, one dressed entirely in black, the other in blue, were caught on video opening fire on 200 partyers, sending them scattering for cover.

Three men and five women between the ages of 18 and 27 were each struck one time, most in the arm or leg during the 12:25 a.m. shooting, cops said. The youngest victim was shot in her abdomen and another woman was grazed in the nose. All the victims are expected to recover.

Shea said Wednesday detectives are taking a “broader look” at the incident.

“There’s gang angles to those shootings and our detectives are out there working that case,” he told PIX11.

There were eight shootings across the city on Sunday and Monday, with 20 people wounded, officials said.

The shootings included an incident in East New York, Brooklyn, about 12:30 a.m. Monday where a 16-year-old boy was shot in the head as he sat behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SUV idling at a stoplight at Atlantic and Schneck Aves. The teen remained in critical condition at the hospital Wednesday, cops said. Two others in the SUV, an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were also hit by gunfire, but are expected to survive, officials said.

On Sunday in the Bronx, Luis Villega, 43, and another man, also 43, were shot on the corner of E. 149th St. and Brook Ave. in Mott Haven about 1:10 p.m., cops said. Villega died of his wounds.

Police on Tuesday released images of the suspects wanted for the Roosevelt Houses shooting. Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
