Ann V. “Nancy” Colgan passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 surrounded by her family. A Woodsider through and through, Nancy was devoted to the community and the people of it.

Nancy Zierau was born in Yorkville, Manhattan but moved

to Woodside Queens when she was only 3 years old. She would devote the next 83 years of her life to the well-being of the neighborhood. As a teacher for decades at PS 151 years she instructed hundreds of children from the Woodside House, the Boulevard Gardens and the surrounding community with care and compassion. Her hours of service to the parish that she loved, Corpus Christi, are too numerous to count. She served in every capacity of volunteerism from the time

her children were young until her recent service on the parish council. At the time of her death she was no doubt the longest tenured member of the parish.

Her 27-year-long marriage to Jim Colgan was a happy one and proof that opposites attract. It produced her greatest pleasure in life, her four beloved children, Tommy, Christy, Mary Beth, and John. After Jim's death, she took consolation in the next generation of her family, her cherished grandchildren Sarah, Patrick, Regina, Rebecca, Jackie, and Tino. The lessons she taught at home were the same as the ones she taught in the classroom—believe in yourself, speak up and always, always be reading.

Some of her happiest days were spent at her summer retreat in Brewster, New York. What the house lacked in size was made up for in the number of books per square foot. A sweeping historical novel or a puzzling whodunit was always the best escape from the heat.

Aside from her children and grandchildren she is survived by her devoted sister, Deirdre, her treasured son- and daughters-in-law Mark, Jill, and Claudia, her niece Alison and her husband, Johannes, their children, Matt and Cate, and her nephew Jerry, his wife Maura, and their children, Anna and Billy.

Visitation will be held at Farenga Funeral Home 38-08 Ditmars Blvd Astoria on Friday, September 17th from 2-5 PM and

7-9 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Corpus Christi Church in Woodside on Saturday, September 18th at 11:15 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Corpus Christi https:// ccwoodsideny.org/donate-now/ or you can mail a check to Corpus Christi 31-30 61st
