Taking care of business

-

With the pandemic abating and the city starting to open up again, here are some essential tips for entrepreneurs from business coach Zahira Domenech:

1. Whether your business is brickand-mortar or a website, make sure to put an emphasis on digital marketing. Email marketing, social media and e-commerce are key. One of the most important things you can do as a business is create a community for — and with — your clients and audience with a strong online presence.

2. Being an entrepreneur is an extremely challenging job; even more so when you’re a woman. And especially if you’re a mom. It’s important to have a support system — you can’t do it all alone. Delegate tasks to others at your business, but also remember to delegate at home for the tough stuff, like hiring someone to clean your house, cook meals or pick up your kids from school.

3. Build your business around your lifestyle. For example, one of my clients has four kids and instead of opening her business from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., she works from 8 to 3. That way she can get her kids and spend time at home with her family. She has other ways people can buy from her, such as online, for when she’s not physically at the business.

4. Learn about financial planning, so you can put your money to work for you. You should learn how to invest in things like the stock market, real estate or even cryptocurrency, and how to bring in passive income and recurring income to your business — for example, by establishing memberships that people have to pay for every month. That way you have money coming in and you don’t have to be selling something every moment, every day.

5. Take care of your health — especially your mental health. People can get very stressed with everything going on in the world right now. One way to relieve anxiety is to make sure to move your body every day. Schedule short breaks throughout your workday and take a moment to do some physical activity, even if it’s just stretching or walking. It’ll help clear your mind so you can focus on the task at hand — like building your business.
