Browns release five-time Pro Bowl WR Landry in salary dump

-

Jarvis Landry helped the Browns rebuild from the NFL’s bottom floor. They’ll now try to stay relevant without him.

Cleveland released the fivetime Pro Bowl wide receiver Monday in a tough but necessary cost-cutting move after the invaluable Landry became too expensive to keep.

One of the league’s steadiest pass catchers, the 29-year-old Landry was instrumental in the Browns’ turnaround after the team went just 1-31 in the two seasons before he arrived via trade from the Dolphins in 2018. Landry provided leadership and was one team’s top offensive players as the Browns ended a nearly 20-year playoff drought in 2020.

TOWNS HITS 60

Karl-Anthony Towns scored a career-high 60 points — the most in the NBA this season — and the Timberwolves outlasted the

Spurs, 149-139, on Monday night.

Towns shot 19 for 31 and grabbed 17 rebounds in surpassing his previous best of 56 points against Atlanta on March 28, 2018. Lakers star LeBron James and Hawks point guard Trae Young previously shared leaguehigh honors this season with 56 points.

GARY STARTS LIFE AS TWIN

Gary Sánchez is ready to move on from the Yankees.

The power-hitting catcher reported to Twins camp on Monday morning with teammate Gio Urshela about 12 hours after they were included in a three-for-two trade that sent third baseman Josh Donaldson and short-lived shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Bombers, who also acquired catcher Ben Rortvedt in the deal.

While he’s just beginning to settle in, Sánchez expressed enthusiasm about his new opportunity with the suddenly trade-happy Twins, who plan to platoon him with young catcher Ryan Jeffers. The Twins traded veteran catcher Mitch Garver to the Rangers on Saturday in exchange for Kiner-Falefa before flipping him to the Yankees. The Twins also acquired starting pitcher Sonny Gray from the Reds on Sunday and likely have more moves coming.

Discussing his own trade during a seven-minute session with reporters, the 29-year-old Sánchez deflected questions about his up-and-down tenure with the Yankees.

“Since last night, that chapter is done,” Sánchez said through a team translator. “It’s in the past.”
