Cops make arrest in Bronx drive-by shoot that killed one, wounded two

- BY ROCCO PARASCANDOLA

A Bronx gunman wanted for killing a woman and wounding two other men in a drive-by shooting has been arrested, police said Friday.

The suspect, Jason Rivera, 27, was originally thought to have been firing at one of the two men, but it now appears he missed his target, police said.

The shooting happened the afternoon of Feb. 7 on E. 137th St. by Bruckner Blvd., in Mott Haven.

Gloria Ortiz, 29, was shot in the head and killed. Her business partner, Jeffrey Rivera, 32, was shot in the back and wounded, as was a 23-year-old man.

Video obtained by the Daily News shows the shooter speed off in a white BMW while a man on the sidewalk points a handgun at the fleeing vehicle and runs after it.

Police said Ortiz and Jeffrey Rivera ran a tow truck business and had met up to split up recent revenue. Jeffrey Rivera also has a side business, renting out halls for parties.

Authorities were pursuing different theories about what sparked the shooting.

The feds are investigating whether the violence is connected to tensions between rival tow companies, cops said.

NYPD investigators, meanwhile, suspect the shooting may have involved a dispute over property, sources said.

Jason Rivera, who is not related to Jeffrey Rivera, has five prior arrests, including for grand larceny and assault, police said.

He was arrested in the Bronx on Wednesday for reckless driving using an illegal dirt bike.

Police said he had a loaded .45-caliber handgun, but it wasn’t yet clear if the same gun was used in the triple shooting.
