Mayor Adams’ security detail whisked him away from an informal press gaggle on a Brooklyn sidewalk Friday after someone threw a can at him that ended up hitting one of his bodyguards, police officials said.

The can of Nutrament protein drink was hurled from a NYCHA building on Taylor Street in Williamsburg as Adams stood in front of it speaking with a handful of reporters following a public housing-related press conference.

It was not clear whether whoever threw the can aimed to hit Adams, but an NYPD official told the Daily News that it struck a member of the mayor’s security detail in the arm, leaving the bodyguard with a “minor injury.”

Asked about the incident later in the day, Adams cracked a joke about the Nutrament chucker being aware of his dietary choices.

“They know that I’m into health, so they threw down a protein [can] for me to be able to drink,” said Adams, who adheres to what he calls a “plant-based” diet.

“I didn’t get a chance to thank them,” Hizzoner said. “I had to get up to the Bronx, but I appreciate the commitment to my nutritional values.”

NYPD Housing Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, who was present for the mayor’s event, told The News that he sent two cops into the building to investigate after hearing the can slam against the sidewalk with a loud thump.

Maddrey and members of the mayor’s security detail, including his brother, Bernard Adams, then surrounded the mayor.

“Eyes up,” Maddrey told other officers and motioned toward the building as they escorted Adams to his parked SUV nearby.

There was no word Friday afternoon about any arrests over the hurled can.

During the appearance later in the day, Adams praised his bodyguard team and his brother, who serves as an unpaid security adviser and often accompanies the mayor at press conferences.
