Biker is killed after falling in front of truck

A motorcyclist died after he fell off his bike and was run over by a flatbed truck on a Brooklyn street Thursday morning — as the victim’s brother, on another motorcycle, begged for help to “save my big brother,” cops and witnesses said.

Daniel Vida, 30, of Bushwick was riding a 2021 Jiangsu Xpro on Meadow St. headed toward Morgan Ave., in the bike lane and was passing stopped traffic when he locked up the motorcycle’s rear brake — causing the bike to skid, and hurling him into the path of a flatbed truck making a left onto Morgan Ave, cops said.

A 50-year-old driver of a 2022 International truck registered to a Brooklyn granite trading company ran over Vidal with both his front and rear tires just after 9:30 a.m., leaving the victim with severe head trauma, police said.

Medics rushed Vidal to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he died.

Michelle Acevedo, 44, who works on Morgan Ave., said she witnessed the gruesome aftermath, and tried to comfort Vidal’s brother as he cried out in grief. According to Acevedo, the brother and a third motorcyclist were on separate bikes when the stunning collision took place.

“His head was squashed,” Acevedo said of Vidal.

“I tried to console [the younger brother] as best I could,” Acevedo said. “He kept screaming, ‘Save my big brother. Don’t die. Don’t die.’ ”

In an attempt to block the younger rider’s view of his big brother’s body, she said she covered the young man’s eyes.

“When he peaked and he screamed, I turned around,” she said.

“I asked him if he wanted to call his mom,” Acevedo said. “He said, ‘I can’t. My mom is working.’ He said he didn’t want to call his mom and tell her this news.”

“The cops took him from there,” she said of Vidal’s younger brother.

The distraught Acevedo said “from there I had to come upstairs because I had to throw up.”

Pablo Baltazar, 27 who works a block away, said the driver had marble counter slabs in the back of the “large” truck.

“I saw a lot of blood. I saw one of his eyes falling out,” said Baltazar about Vidal. He added the victim’s motorcycle helmet was “crushed.”

The 50-year-old flatbed truck driver stayed on scene and has not been charged; the investigation is ongoing.
