Ailing Willis seen having family fun in video
Bruce Willis is enjoying his family in retirement, a video shared Sunday by his wife shows.
The actor, who stepped away from Hollywood this year after being diagnosed with the language disorder aphasia, is seen kissing wife Emma Heming Willis, dancing and playing with their young daughters, and spending time outdoors in the new footage.
“We don’t believe in perfection over here but #oursummer2022 was pretty close to it. In fact it was magic,” Heming Willis captioned an Instagram post.
The clips offer a glimpse into Willis’ life nearly seven months after his family announced his retirement following more than four decades in the entertainment industry.
In that announcement, Willis’ family preached positivity after his diagnosis with aphasia, which can affect a person’s ability to communicate.
“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” reads the joint statement, which was shared on March 30.
“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”
Willis, 67, is considered one of his era’s top action stars, known for films such as “Die Hard” and its sequels, the Quentin Tarantino-directed “Pulp Fiction” and the M. Night Shyamalan movies “Unbreakable” and “The Sixth Sense.”
The German-born Willis was previously married to actress Demi Moore from 1987 to 2000, and married the model Heming Willis in 2009. He has three daughters with Moore and two with Heming Willis.
His retirement prompted an outpouring of support and kind words from others in the entertainment industry, including actress Helen Mirren, who starred alongside Willis in the 2010 action-comedy “Red” and its 2013 sequel.
“He taught me a lot about acting, actually,” Mirren told the Daily News in April.
“When I came into ‘Red,’ I’d never really done that kind of movie before, and I was quite nervous. Number one, Bruce was incredibly welcoming and he immediately made me feel comfortable, and I will always be grateful to him for that. And then I would watch him, and Bruce was a brilliant actor. Brilliant.”
