Seven Spartans charged after Michigan melee
Seven Michigan State football players were charged with assault for the conflict with two Michigan players in the tunnel of Michigan Stadium after their game on Oct. 29.
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday that Khary Crump was charged with felonious assault for striking Gemon Green with his helmet. Green was placed in concussion protocol after the incident, his father told ESPN. Jacoby Windmon was also charged with assault and battery.
“Following the altercation between members of the Michigan and Michigan State football teams on October 29, the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security conducted a thorough investigation into potential criminal liability,” the Washtenaw County prosecutor’s office released in a statement. “At the conclusion of that investigation, UMDPSS submitted to the prosecutor’s office a request for criminal charges against several individuals — all student-athletes on the Michigan State football team.”
Itayvion Brown, Angelo Grose, Justin White, Brandon Wright and Zion Young were charged with aggravated assault.
Michigan State issued suspensions to all seven players and one player, Malcolm Jones, who was not charged with a crime. The suspensions last until the conclusion of the investigation.
