Gloria Allred sues Alec on behalf of Hutchins’ mom, dad and sister

Alec Baldwin is facing another lawsuit over the shooting on the set of his film “Rust.” This one was filed by attorney Gloria Allred on behalf of the parents and sister of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed in the accidental gunfire.

“Halyna was the light in their lives,” Allred said Thursday at a press conference. “But now, in addition to this tragedy, they have to try to cope with that loss while living in Ukraine in the midst of Putin’s war.”

In addition to Baldwin, the suit names armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, prop master Sarah Zachry and reported ammunition provider Seth Kenney.

The announcement comes more than a week after the 64-year-old Baldwin was formally charged alongside Gutierrez-Reed in connection with Hutchins’ death. They both face two counts of involuntary manslaughter, while first assistant director David Halls has agreed to plead guilty to a charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon.

Zachry and Kenney were not criminally charged. Kenney did not provide the bullet that killed Hutchins, according to investigators.

Baldwin was rehearsing a scene inside the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, N.M., when he mistakenly shot Hutchins on Oct. 21, 2021. The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also struck in the shoulder. He said Baldwin was seated in a church pew, practicing a move in which he whips a pistol from its holster, when it suddenly went off.

In wake of the deadly accident, Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the producers of “Rust,” including Baldwin. According to the suit, if proper protocols had been followed on set, “Halyna Hutchins would be alive and well, hugging her husband and 9-year-old son.”

The grieving husband has since revealed he agreed to a settlement that allowrf production on the film to resume last month. He was also made an executive producer as part of the agreement.

Allred contrasted Matthew’s case with those of Hutchins’ father Anatolii Androsovych, mother Olga Solovey and sister Svetlana Zemko.

“There has been no settlement for them,” Allred said. “As a matter of fact, there has been no outreach to them by Mr. Baldwin to say he was sorry.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive and compensatory damages for Hutchins’ family. Allred did not comment on the decision to complete the film.

Baldwin has repeatedly denied responsibility for the shooting. He claimed the gun went off accidentally and that he did not pull the trigger — but a recent FBI forensic report found the weapon could not have fired unless the trigger was pulled.

Baldwin and other producers on “Rust” are facing a bevy of lawsuits, all of which describe a chaotic and unprofessional atmosphere on the set. One of those suits also involves Allred, who represents scriptwriter Mamie Mitchell in the suit she filed against Baldwin less than a month after Hutchins’ death.
