Hong Kong model Choi’s ex-husband, in-laws held as more body parts found

The ex-husband and in-laws of murdered Hong Kong model Abby Choi were denied bail at their first court appearance Monday.

Choi’s body parts were found Friday in a rental unit alongside a meat slicer and a chainsaw, which police described as “tools that are used to dismember human bodies.”

Officers initially discovered Choi’s legs in a refrigerator and human tissue in soup pots. On Sunday, cops identified Choi’s skull and ribs in different pots that had been seized from the residence. Police said her skull had a small hole in it. Investigators are still looking for Choi’s torso and hands.

Choi’s ex-husband, 28-year-old Alex Kwong, was arrested early Saturday before he could flee Hong Kong. Kwong’s father, Kwong Kau, and mother, Jenny Li, had already been detained alongside his older brother, 31-year-old Anthony Kwong.

Alex, Anthony and their father were all charged with murder. Li was charged with lying to investigators. None of the four suspects entered a plea.

The father, Kwong Kau, had rented the unit where Choi’s remains were found, police said. It was mostly unfurnished, according to investigators.

Choi, 28, was a popular model and influencer with more than 100,000 Instagram followers. She appeared at Paris Fashion Week and on the cover of fashion magazine L’Officiel Monaco.

According to Hong Kong media reports, Choi (photo) continued to financially support the Kwong family after separating from Alex Kwong. She reportedly paid for a $9.2 million condo where they lived. Police said only that Choi had financial disputes with the Kwong family and that “some people” were upset with how she managed her money.

Kwong Kau masterminded the plot, according to police. In the scheme, investigators said, Anthony Kwong, the older brother who also worked as Choi’s driver, knocked her unconscious before driving her to the house where she was killed.
