DeSantis knocks Bragg, still feels Trump wrath
Former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis joined hands in trashing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Monday for the Stormy Daniels hush money investigation — but used the case to launch nasty new attacks on each other.
As a possible indictment of Trump looms, DeSantis (photo) broke his silence to join a chorus of Republican attacks on Bragg, calling him a leftist New York prosecutor who is carrying out a politically motivated hatchet job on Trump.
But DeSantis, who is expected to challenge Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, also fired a barely veiled barb at the ex-president for getting in R-rated hot water in the first place.
“I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair,” DeSantis said.
Trump hit back hard at DeSantis, suggesting that the Florida governor could soon be dealing with even nastier accusations.
“Ron DeSanctimonious will probably find out about FALSE ACCUSATIONS & FAKE STORIES sometime in the future, as he gets older, wiser, and better known, when he’s unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman, even classmates that are “underage” (or possibly a man!),” Trump wrote on his social media site.
In case anyone didn’t get the point, Trump also retweeted a photo of DeSantis getting cozy with teenage girls while he was a high school teacher.
The twice-impeached ex-president had spent most of his time attacking Bragg for pursuing the controversial case.
After saying he expects to be charged on Tuesday, Trump on Sunday night accused Bragg of “interference in a presidential election” for pressing ahead with the investigation.
Trump also claimed the statute of limitations has expired on his case, an assertion that legal experts reject. “This is a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt of all time!” Trump added.
DeSantis kept quiet all weekend about the hush money probe even as pressure rose from fellow Republicans to denounce the possibility of Trump being charged in connection with the long-running hush money probe.
