Finds right mechanics, hits two homers

- BACKSTOP MIX-UP

it has been a little bit better to, I don’t want to say ease into it, but make sure that you’re getting the time and recovery and all that good stuff,” Donaldson said, adding that he viewed his disappointing 2022 as the product of never getting on a roll.

But Boone has been steadfast in his support of Donaldson. That remained the case Tuesday.

“He had a really good BP today with just the little adjustments he’s making and working on. But then to go out and get results in the game is encouraging,” Boone said. “He’s capable of that. It’s absolutely still in there. He’s twitchy, he’s strong. He’s got power.”

Those tracking the Yankees’ Tuesday lineup became concerned when the initial order didn’t include Jose Trevino, who was expected to return from a wrist injury and catch. The Yankees posted a lineup card without Trevino in the clubhouse, only to then tweet one that included him. The team then tweeted a revised lineup without the backstop, only for Trevino to tell reporters “I’m playing today.” He ultimately started behind the plate. Those invested in the confusion can follow it here.

Boone explained that, coming off an off day, he wanted to take the pressure of a definite start off Trevino before having the chance to check in with him.

Trevino added that he feels “really good” following the injury.

OTHER CATCHERS STILL HURT

Boone said that he didn’t have any updates on prospects Austin Wells (fractured rib) and Josh Breaux (elbow). However, Ben Rortvedt, who underwent shoulder surgery to address an aneurysm that caused a frightening circulation issue in his fingers, has resumed throwing.

Rortvedt is the only catcher on the Yankees’ 40-man roster besides Trevino and Kyle Higashioka, who has been away from the team while playing for the United States in the

World Baseball Classic. The U.S. takes on Japan in the tournament’s finale Tuesday night.

GARY’S GOING HOME

Those banged-up Yankees catchers have left some fans wishing for a Gary Sanchez homecoming on social media. Well, those fans got their wish — sort of. The free agent is heading home… to the Dominican Republic. Leones del Escogido, a Dominican Professional Baseball League team, announced it signed Sanchez and former Mets pitcher Jeurys Familia on Tuesday. It is a winter league, so it’s not like the two no longer have an opportunity to play affiliated ball this season.
