Woman charged in stabbing of man in Brooklyn apartment

A woman has been charged in the stabbing death of her boyfriend inside his Brooklyn apartment, police said Tuesday.

Kiasia Durham was arrested Monday and charged with manslaughter and weapon possession in the Sunday slaying of Jonathan Allen, 47, inside his apartment at the high-end Denizen Bushwick on Melrose St. near Evergreen Ave.

Police said Durham, 29, who used to lived with Allen but is now homeless, stabbed the victim once in the chest.

Medics rushed him to Woodhull Hospital but he could not be saved.

Allen, who worked for Amtrak in the traffic signaling department for 16 years, had a contentious relationship with the suspect. Officers had responded a number of times to quell arguments between the two, police said.

Durham was arrested Oct. 11 for criminal mischief for a May 26 incident involving two other people at the same apartment building. She’s accused of entering the building without permission and smashing computers.

On Sept. 22, 2022, she was charged with assault and eight days later charged with violating an order of protection, cops said. According to a criminal complaint, in the later incident she approached another person in Allen’s building and said, “I will break your s—.”

She was also charged with assault on March 7, 2020, police said.

Allen’s neighbors said she constantly showed up at his apartment to harass him.

“I’ve never seen her but I heard there was big problems in the past,” Allen’s father, Johnnie Allen, told the Daily News of Durham. “This is a big mess. I never contemplated this — never.”

A neighbor on Allen’s floor remembered how the girlfriend’s rantings would keep her husband up after work.

“[My husband] worked overnights. When he got home at 2 in the morning and he needed to go to sleep she’d be out there pounding and pounding until 3, 4, 5 in the morning — cops were there,” said Michelle Hussey, 44.

“It was just a terrible situation,” she added. “It’s tragic.”

Another building resident who did not share her name said the girlfriend “terrorized” the neighbors by not only banging on Allen’s door but constantly screaming insults and demands to be let into his apartment.

The neighbor recalled opening the door and telling the girlfriend to shut up early one morning.

“She charged at me so I slammed it in her face,” said the woman.

“Not as much recently, but before cops were here at least once a month, once every three weeks,” she added.

Allen was a Section 8 tenant in the luxury building and eventually building management tried to evict both Allen and Durham’s mother from another floor over Durham’s blow-ups — even though she didn’t live with either of them but at a nearby shelter, said Antoine Morris, a Legal Aid lawyer who represented the victim.

Durham was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court Monday, and is being held on $200,000 bond. Her lawyer with Brooklyn Defender Services declined comment Tuesday.
