A Strange Loop has yet another workshop, this time at the Off Broadway venue Playwrights Horizons on West 42nd Street. In the audience is Broadway producer Barbara Whitman (who did the Tony-winning Fun Home). She becomes “mad” that theaters have failed to produce this kind of “challenging” work and steps up to do so. Relatively quickly, three Off Broadway theaters offer to produce A Strange Loop. The team chooses Playwrights Horizons (the site of the original production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George), joining its 2018–19 season.
