There could not be a more timely moment for this documentary to arrive on HBO. Directed by Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes, The Janes tells the story of a group of women in Chicago, pre–Roe v.

Wade, who worked underground to help other women get safe abortions. Calling themselves the Janes, their work and this doc provide yet another reminder that no ban will ever end abortions but simply make them harder and riskier to get.
